What’s the fuss about being sls-free? Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a strong detergent that dissolved the oils on and in the skin causing dryness and irritation. It is commonly used in body washes, shampoos and even toothpaste. A lot of body care products contain heavy petrochemicals to form a layer on the skin and are so called moisturizing. A strong cleanser such as SLS can remove the petrochemical layer of grease on the skin but unfortunately it also strips the skin of its natural body oils. The skin needs oils for healthy function so that it can adjust to changes in atmospheric conditions.
Kio Kio body washes contain ammonium lauryl sulphate which is a gentle cleanser that does not go into the skin and strip the skin of its natural oils. It forms a nice soft marshmallow foam. It’s great for cleaning just the surface of the skin, rinses well, is not an environmental toxin, and is not bio-accumulative.
Our philosophy is that if it is possible to create a body wash without any harmful chemicals then let’s do it! We have done our best to incorporate all the good things and none of the nasties.
